€100 Million funding will be available for small-scale innovative projects in December 2020!

The Innovation Fund focuses on:

• highly innovative technologies,

• big flagship projects, 

 on innovative low-carbon solutions, and 

• small-scale projects that can bring on significant emission reductions.

HOW MUCH FUNDING CAN YOU GET FOR YOUR PROJECT?

The Innovation Fund has around a total of €10 Billion funding opportunities.

The first call for large-scale projects, meaning projects above €7.5 Million, closed on 29 October. The Commission is ready to invest €1 Billion in the first call.

The Innovation Fund for large-scale projects will support up to 60% of the costs linked to innovation. These costs also include the OPEX costs for a period of up to 10 years as well as CAPEX.

The subsidies may be complemented by any other funding (e.g. national), but more than 100% overall funding is not allowed.

40% of all EU investment is accepted to be lost like venture capital.

The Innovation Fund will grant up to 60% of the total CAPEX in its call for the small-scale projects. The total budget of the first call for small-scale projects is €100 Million.

Deadline of the submission for the small-scale projects call is 10 March 2021!

WHICH TECHNOLOGIES DOES THE INNOVATION FUND SUPPORT?

The Innovation Fund supports projects in the sectors covered under the EU Emissions Trading System. 

The technologies (or combinations of technologies) that are to be demonstrated in the project need to be highly innovative.

The aim is also to balance the spending of the Innovation Fund over the above-listed categories.
